Gautam and Jaymala’s Journey with Moringa in India
In rural India, where challenges of poverty, malnutrition, and limited resources are daily realities, Gautam and Jaymala Kumar are dedicated to transforming lives — one training at a time.

From Discovery to Dedication
It all began in 2021, when Gautam – director of S. Oblige Public School in Barura – learned about Strong Harvest from his friend Kate Courshon, a moringa champion and friend of Strong Harvest.
Soon after, he and his schoolteachers completed online training with Strong Harvest’s founder Rick and current Executive Director Megan, learning how moringa could improve health, purify water, and create income.
Gautam quickly began applying what he learned in his school and community. When he married Jaymala in February 2022, she joined the effort, leading her own trainings focused on women and girls. Together, they are pillars of hope in their region.

A Week in Their Lives
Gautam balances his time between working as a school director and teaching surrounding communities about moringa’s many benefits.
Gautam oversees 150 students at his main campus and another 250 across four satellite schools, serving disadvantaged and orphaned children by providing free education, basic necessities, and nutritious moringa meals. The school’s incorporation of moringa has led to improved health for the children and staff.
Jaymala focuses on educating underprivileged women and girls about menstrual hygiene, distributing sanitary napkins, and teaching about moringa.
Her own health improved after using moringa — it stabilized her menstrual cycle and allowed her to become pregnant and give birth to a healthy baby boy! Her story continues to inspire women in her community to make moringa part of their lives.

Tackling Pressing Challenges
- Health and Nutrition: Many families lack access to nutritious food. Moringa leaves in fresh and powdered forms provide vital nutrients to fill this gap.
- Clean Water: Moringa seeds can purify contaminated water, making it safe to drink and reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.
- Economic Opportunity: By producing and selling moringa-based products like powder, seeds, and soap, families gain sustainable income streams.
