Our work in Malawi is growing because of the faithful partnership of our supporters and our fabulous team on the ground. Our Field Partner Moshi and the Malawi Peer Educator team have continued sharing our training with exciting results. Together they have now reached 127 villages teaching moringa, nutrition, and better farming!

We want to say yes to the next group of communities asking for training — 29 village requests so far. Our Malawi team is ready and willing to go — they just need the ability to travel reliably.

Many of the communities requesting training are 30-50 kilometers (18.64-31.07 miles) from Moshi’s home which puts them out of range of his bicycle. Additionally, local motorcycle rentals are often not available when needed. For these reasons, our goal is to purchase a motorcycle and cover its fees and operating costs for one year so the team has dependable transport.

What We Need

  • Total goal: 5,990,000 MWK ≈ $2,538 USD — buys a motorcycle and safety gear, and pays registration, licensing, and one year of fuel plus maintenance.

How Your Gift Helps

The Reality of Transportation

Recently Moshi rode his bicycle to a training 21 km (13.05 mi) from his home — a trip that took 2½ hours one way. A motorcycle will allow Moshi to make long trips faster, ensure he can go when needed, and let him visit more villages. That means Moshi and the Malawi Peer Educator team can say yes to new requests, and teach more families how to grow nutritious food and improve livelihoods!

^ These recent photos show the main road in and out of Moshi’s town in the rainy season. Transportation on a bicycle is not even possible for several months of the year.

Will you help us make transport reliable for Moshi and our Malawi team?

With reliable transport, Moshi and his team can reach many more villages that are already asking for help. Thank you for believing in this work and in the people carrying it out!

We are grateful for you,

Megan, and the Strong Harvest team

P.S. The irrigation project is going well! The Timbenao community has been able to continually plant and harvest crops since we helped them purchase the solar irrigation system last August. The leadership team is taking good care of the system, and Timbenao has even become a training site for other communities to learn about sustainable agriculture!

^ Estele is thrilled with this project which now prevents her family from going hungry!
