While we were in the Managua city dump (la chureca), we spoke with Miriam – that’s her in the photo holding a bundle of moringa seed pods picked for her by the children. Miriam is a Nicaraguan pastor who runs a daily feeding program for the children living in the la chureca village. She is very interested in learning more about moringa and how it can be incorporated into the feeding program. She is also interested in training trainers (peer educators) in her church who would be able to go into the dump to teach people about moringa. The positive nutritional impact of eating the leaves would make an amazing difference in the health of the children, many of whom had the tell-tale signs of malnutrition – distended bellies and orange hair. We are looking forward to working together with Miriam to make a difference!
