In June, our Field Rep Jean and his wife Olga returned to the northern village of Nassiegou, Togo. They trained a group of Peer Educators there in January 2020 right before the COVID lockdown. Due to COVID and the fact that it is a long, expensive journey from where they live on the southern coast, they were unable to return until last month. But they were very happy when they did!
Despite the extended time between trainings, the Nassiegou Peer Educators shared the knowledge all around their village and many people are now using moringa! Jean and Olga heard many stories of improved health from people who eat moringa regularly, such as relief from a variety of body aches, high blood pressure, eye problems, and anemia.
The map above has a red pin on the city nearest the village of Nassiegou. Below are the traditional round huts of Nassiegou with the metal-roofed church in the background.
Above, a Peer Educator from Nassiegou shows moringa soap and ointment that the group made together.
Pastor Djinglin, the leader of the group, summed it up this way: “What we have learned is more than money. Even if you give us millions of dollars, we will spend it and become poor eventually and go on living with disease. Through this training, many will be in good health and will be able to earn money all their lives by making soap and ointment.”
This is the simple truth: the knowledge of moringa is better than gold!
